Ireland qualify for T20 World Cup
John Mooney took Ireland’s first ever Twenty20 hat-trick and opener Paul Stirling hit 55 off 38 balls as Ireland beat Jersey to secure their place at the T20 World Cup in India next year.

Victory in their final group A game at the ICC World Cup Qualifiers in Malahide and results elsewhere in the group saw Ireland top the qualification pool, thus securing the coveted spot.

The seven-wicket win was a welcome one for Ireland after unexpected losses earlier in the week to both Papua New Guinea and Hong Kong.

Opener Paul Stirling, who also took three wickets in the Jersey innings, won the man-of-the-match award after his contribution of 55 off just 38 deliveries.

Ireland won the toss and put Jersey into bat. On a slow pitch, which offered little to the bowlers due to heavy overnight rain, Jersey eventually reached 122 all-out in the final over having at one stage been on 106 for 2 in the 16th over.

Mooney struck in the final over to take the wickets of Chuggy Perchard, Ben Kyman and Phys Palmer for his historic hat-trick.

ICC T20 World Cup Winners

After this T20 format of cricket saw a lot of appreciation in England, ICC decided to welcome it to the International scenario. Since then T20 International has never looked back.

The period lasting from the year 1998 to 2001 was can be traced back as the time of origin of Twenty20 cricket. However, it was in the year 2001 that the idea of a shortened form of cricket, earlier discussed by England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), began to take a concrete shape. The concept of 40-over game, with 20 overs per innings, was presented to the county chairman in the same year and later, passed with a voting of 11-7, 11 in favor and 7 against. Soon, the new form of cricket was given the name of Twenty20, more popularly T20.

Soon after the first Twenty20 cricket tournament was played and became overnight success, South Africa, Australia and the West Indies also organized similar tournaments, which again attracted huge cricket audience. In the year 2005, history was created, when Twenty20 cricket made its international debut, with the first T20 International being played, between Australia and New Zealand at Eden Park. As the popularity of the new form of cricket started rising, surpassing that of even ODIs and Tests, the game was taken more seriously.

By 2007, the popularity of Twenty20 had gained such heights that ICC organized the first international Twenty20 tournament, rather the inaugural Twenty20 World Cup, creating another history of sorts. With South Africa as the host, the tournament included 10 Test playing nations, apart from ICC associate nations - Kenya and Scotland. India won the first ICC T20 World Cup, beating Pakistan in the finals.

India lifted the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 which likewise left on the effective cricketing voyage of MS Dhoni as the Indian captain. Pakistan lost in the finals to India.

Pakistan by then had turn into an in number T20 group and they won the second T20 World container in 2009. They vanquished Sri Lanka in the finals. Before the end of second T20 world glass, none of alternate groups separated from India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan had the capacity achieve the finals.

Things changed in the third release - ICC T20 World Cup 2010. Britain lifted the trophy vanquishing Australia in the finals.

T20 World Cup 2012 was held in Sri Lanka. The hosts made it to the finals for the second time just to get an annihilation from West Indies. Solid West Indies group won the trophy.

At this point the most meriting group to win T20 world glass was Sri Lanka since they came to the finals twice yet couldn't win. 2014 gave them the achievement when they crushed India in the finals.
