An ignominious defeat by the Netherlands and a limp exit from a tournament they had won four years earlier, the 2014 World Twenty20 marked one of the lowest points in England cricket history. Thanks to a stunning change of approach, Eoin Morgan's side can now be considered serious contenders for the 2016 competition in India starting on 8 March.

A historic 3-0 series whitewash of Pakistan in the UAE in November extended England's winning T20 run to six games - and they have lost only once since their Dutch humiliation.

After the draw for the World T20 was made on Friday, England batsman Joe Root and former spinner and 2010 winner Graeme Swann assess the reasons behind their resurgence and discuss whether they can become the first side to win the competition twice.

Andrew Strauss won only four T20 caps as a player, but the decision by England's director of cricket to concentrate more on limited-overs cricket this year was a vital factor in their T20 resurgence this year, according to Swann and Root.

"The greatest thing that's happened is Strauss getting in charge and completely separating the Test and one-day cricket formats, getting specialists in, people who have grown up playing the game," says Swann, who played 39 T20s between 2008 and 2012.

"In my time if you were a centrally contracted player you played ahead of guys that played a lot more T20 cricket.

"I don't think it's any surprise that the upturn in results is due to guys who are just better at the game playing for England."

Yet with separation has come a greater sense of unity between the ODI and T20 sides.

"The way we've approached one-day cricket recently has definitely helped the T20 team with more consistency in the overlap between the sides," says Root.

"You've got guys like Alex Hales and Jason Roy getting a lot more international experience.

"Having that opening partnership go across both formats and that understanding of batting with one another, that's very important."

World Twenty20 India 2016
Shahid Afridi said he hoped a tough ICC World T20 2016 draw would motivate his team to win the title for the first time in seven years and beat arch-rivals India.

Pakistan’s Twenty20 captain Shahid Afridi on Thursday said he hoped a tough ICC World T20 2016 draw would motivate his team to win the title for the first time in seven years and beat arch-rivals India along the way. The 2009 champions are placed in Group 2 of the Super Ten round in the sixth edition of the World Twenty20 to be held from March 8 — April 3 2016, along with hosts India, Australia, New Zealand, and a yet to be decided qualifier. Their second match will be against India, a team they have never beaten in either a traditional one-day World Cup or the newer World Twenty20. Afridi told AFP: “We have a tough draw but I am hopeful that this challenge will pump-up my team to win the title and on the way beat India.” Pakistan lost to India in both the group round and final of the inaugural World Twenty20 in 2007 and then in two subsequent tournaments.

They have also lost to India every time they have faced them in six World Cups. But Afridi said it was time for a change. “I don’t want to live in history,” he said. “Whatever mistakes we usually make in the matches against India we have to overcome them.” Pakistan’s recent form does not augur well. Last month they lost to England 3-0 in a Twenty20 series in the United Arab Emirates, slipping to six in the rankings. “We made school boy errors and despite putting up good fights in all three matches we lost by narrow margins so we have to be on our toes and should not repeat those mistakes,” said Afridi, who is set to draw the curtain on his two-decade long career after the event. Pakistan have three Twenty20 matches on their tour of New Zealand next month before featuring in the six-nation Asia Cup Twenty20 in Bangladesh in February. “We have enough matches before the World Twenty20 so we have to find a settled combination and I hope we do well in these matches and carry that form into the World Twenty20.”

T20 World Cup To Watch The Bookies
Arrive 2016 T20 World Cup, the International Cricket Council (ICC) will have the one and only one most recognized research organization, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on board to keep the eagle’s eyes on the bookies, match-fixers and other foul-players.

The ICC transfer was necessitated using allegations regarding spot-fixing as well as match-fixing haunting the world cricket, specially when there is a T20 match in India.

Even though a lot has become carried out previously to fix the risk, he lack of rules with the performing organization has allow many black sheep go scot-free in past times, beginning from year 2000-accused Mohammad Azharuddin to 2013-jailed S Sreesanth.

dna has reliably discovered that the ICC plus the CBI get offered in order to access a arrangement to be sure some sort of seamless exchange of thinking ability in order to “dismantle the organised global crime syndicates that have linkages to cricket”.

The MoU, a copy of which is with the dna, can be supposed to possibly be closed prior to the T20 World Cup, and will help at “disrupting the corrupt practices and culture in the sport of cricket”.

The MoU talks about targeting the financial base of crime by using recognition regarding property perhaps be subject to confiscation, determine system vulnerabilities, determine areas and opportunities for policy and legislative reforms, cooperation and data exchange, as well as help him to get in touch with associates with the ICC Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU), both by using the information and law enforcement exchange.

The CBI already carries a devoted unit, Sports Frauds Investigation Office (SFIO), to research the conditions regarding problem and match-fixing in sports. This SFIO works within the agency’s Special Offense Side branch using a DIG-level police officer heading it’s team of investigators. The necessity with the SFIO ocurred as soon as the 2013 spot-fixing and betting scandal in the IPL, which ended in busts regarding cricketers S Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankit Chavan.

The MoU “will target international and national crime syndicates, exploiting vulnerabilities in international sport… to identify, prevent and disrupt organised criminal activity”. As outlined by an official, considered one of it is critical uses would be to assist in cohesiveness relating to the ICC and also the CBI to aid law enforcement activities.

“It makes it possible for the CBI to go regarding criminal prosecution, coronial enquiry, municipal actions, disciplinary actions, option question quality along with mediation, ”

The MoU is with the sports ministry for consideration. This ministry can be supplying it’s viewpoint and also informing the two parties on the draft bill it has initiated for prevention of sports fraud after the report of match fixing in 2013 IPL. However the ministry will probably advise the CBI it has not provided recognition towards BCCI, it could assistance the MoU being authorized in between CBI and also ICC. Interpol is also looking at a possible tie-up with the ICC and the BCCI to help fight match-fixing and illegal betting.

At the moment, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Australian Federal Police and certain European countries have dedicated units to check sports fraud.

World cup T20 2016
I will try to provide the strengths and weaknesses of each team to see who can be the favorites to win the cup. During 2015 Cricket World Cup my predictions for all the 4 semifinalists came true (even before the world cup started . Hopefully I can come close this time too.

1.       Srilanka:

  • Srilanka is currently the number 1 team in T20s according to the rankings. They are one of the most consistent performers when it comes to ICC events.
  • They have Dilshan at the top of the order who is attacking, consistent and experienced. Partnered with Kushal Perera they have one deadly opening combination.
  • They have nothing to worry about the death overs as long as they have Malinga. If ever there comes a situation where they are defending more than 9 runs in the final over I would place my bet on Malinga.
  • With Sangrakarra and Jayawardene retired there will be lot of pressure on Mathews to be consistent in the middle order. Thisara Perera can be an attacking all-rounder and Chandimal is talented, but still the middle order looks weak.
  • Leaving Malinga out, they might have some problems with their bowling. Kulasekara is experienced but expensive sometimes, Mathews is not bowling much off late but their spin department is in good hands with Senanayake and Dilshan.

2.       West Indies:
  • West Indies have all kinds of troubles when it comes to ODIs and Test Matches. But they are very dangerous while playing the shortest format in cricket.
  • They have Chris Gayle who needs no introduction on how destructive he can be. The fact that the tournament is being played in India will give lot of confidence for the West Indies players as they are so used to these conditions playing in IPL.
  • Gayle, Dwayne Bravo and Pollard, all being stars in IPL have to take up the responsibility.
  • Their bowling looks a worry with no Sunil Narine. But Samuel Badree can take up the additional responsibility being the 2nd ranked bowler in T20s just behind Sunil Narine. He also has one of the lowest economy of 5.39 in International T20.
  • Their biggest problem though is playing together and consistent. They have got the talent to beat any team on a given day but can they do it on regular basis? If they can, it would be very difficult to stop them.

3.       Australia:
  • The current world champions in ODI cricket. The only team in top 3 in all the three formats.
  • They have got the batting in David Warner, Steve Smith, Maxwell and Finch. These guys have experience in IPL, are destructive and consistent. A deadly combination. They have a finisher and a good all-rounder in Faulkner.
  • Mithcell Starc is at top of his game. His injury is very unfortunate for Australia but he should be fit before the world cup starts. Their bowling is in good hands. Watson can chip in with some overs and his experience helps a lot for the team. Faulkner is decent. Cummins is fast.
  • They only worry they have is the lack of a quality spinner. Maxwell is a decent spinner. Lyon hasn’t bowled much in colors for Australia. Not sure how are they going to go about it.
4.       England:
  • England off late have changed the way of approach to the game. They have become more aggressive, and are adapting better to the shorter format. They were always good in whites but from the past year they are doing really good in shorter formats too.
  • The ODI and T20 series win in Abu Dabi against Pakistan might have given them a huge morale boost. Their batting looks strong with Alex Hales on top, Joe Root, Eon Morgan and the dangerous Jos Butler in the middle order.
  • Their bowling is decent but again lack of a quality spinner will hurt them.
  • Their chances will depend on the ability to play spin bowling in Indian conditions, it’s difficult but they have a chance
5.       South Africa:
  • Undoubtedly they have one of the best batting lineups in the tournament. I don’t want to mention about ABD here, he is just unbelievable.
  • Amla, Faf, Miller, De Cock and Duminy. Even without ABD’s name over there it still looks very very strong.
  • Steyn and Morkel have not played much T20 cricket in the recent times but I think they will play the world cup. Kyle Abbott is consistent, Duminy can chip in. Imran Tahir is very effective in ODIs and T20s. Steyn and Tahir will be key for their chances.
  • But, you know they are South Africa. Always starts as favorites and then fail to cross the line. Hopefully if they can do it this time it would be wonderful.
6.       Pakistan:
  • Pakistan. I love watching them play cricket. There is some kind of raw element in them that makes their cricket exciting.
  • Very unpredictable yet very strong. Their bowling has never been a worry, they have a bottomless pool of good fast bowlers.
  • Shahid Afridi has been really good with the ball for Pakistan in T20s. His variations bring him a lot of wickets.
  • There batting is strong in terms of talent. Ahmed Shehzad can be really good at times, same with Umar Akmal. But it depends a lot on how they perform together.
  • Shoab Malik’s form is a positive sign for them and generally Hafeez is consistent in Asian conditions. Lot depends on these two.
7.       India:
  • India in India can be the toughest opponent for any team. They know the conditions better than anyone and they have one of the noisiest crowd behind them.
  • As always India’s batting is their strength. When it comes to Indian conditions they are even better. Kohli is probably one of the best T20 batsman in the world with highest average (44) among the players who have played 20 or more matches.
  • Everyone knows how dangerous Rohit Sharma can be in the shorter formats. If he starts to fire, then consider the game is definitely India’s to lose. Suresh Raina is a very destructive batsman in T20 who can chip in with those crucial overs in bowling.
  • In Dhoni they have a finisher and Jadeja’s all-round abilities will be a lot of help.
  • Their spin department looks strong with Ashwin, Jadeja and Mishra but fast bowling is a big worry. Especially in the death overs. Shami’s fitness is still a problem, Bhuvi has stopped swinging the ball and Ishant – I don’t know. Their chances depend on how they bowl in death overs.
8.       Newzealand:
  • Newzealand have the bowling, batting and fielding. They do play very good in ICC tournaments
  • Their batting is strong with McCullum, Williamson, Taylor, and Anderson.
  • Their fast bowling is in good hands with Southee and Boult but spin is a worry.
  • They didn’t find a good spinner after Vettori reduced playing international cricket. Their chances again depends on the ability to play spin in Indian Conditions.

My pick for the 4 semifinalists will be:
  • Australia
  • India
  • South Africa
  • Pakistan

Predicted South African XI for the 2016 T20 World Cup
The countdown to the T20 World Cup has truly begun, but as a South African supporter, the fight and determination still lingers whenever any world cup beckons. The South African cricket team is looking to shake off a stubborn mule and who knows, maybe this time the choking tag will eventually disperse.

Despite their unsuccessful attempts to win any knockout match, South Africa is still one of the toughest teams to beat leading up to the T20 World Cup in India. It’s not surprising that the number six team in T20 cricket is looking to improve on their performance in this tournament.

We look at eleven players that will most likely start and represent the Proteas at the 2016 T20 Cricket World Cup in India in March.

World T20 2016 tips
Australia's otherwise burgeoning cricketing trophy cupboard has one trophy that's missing and they will hope they can finally notch up their maiden World T20 victory in 2016.

For a team which has won five World Cup titles and has often been ranked the number one Test team in the world, Australia have gotten to just one final in World T20 cricket and lost that to traditional rivals England.

Other than that there have been a couple of semi-finals appearances but the side has rarely looked the world champions in T20 cricket like they have in ODI and Test cricket. And they would want to change that when they take that flight to India for the World T20 from March 2016.

Australia will encounter different conditions in India. There won't be their traditional pace and bounce on the surfaces, although the pitches will be made by independent ICC curators and won't see the same amount of turn that surfaces in India usually do. Still, they will need to ensure they prepare themselves for the slower wickets and those which assist batsmen more than bowlers.

In order to be able to do that, Cricket Australia have roped in S Sriram and Michael Hussey for their T20 side. Sriram, who has played in a few ODIs for India, was a left-arm spinner and scored truckload of runs at domestic cricket level. More vitally, he has worked with the Australia A team as well.

Hussey is an Aussie legend in his own right and one of the chief reasons why he went on to score so many runs after he turned 30 was his ability to play spin. He had a good record against spinners and has even taken to coaching, having worked with the South African side during the World Cup and on their tour of India.

Whether this will help Australia, one doesn't know, but it should give them some more confidence going into the World T20 next year where the side is 11/2 to clinch the title. They are also 15/8 to win their group and make the semi-finals.

Tournament starts on March 8.

Cricket Australia (CA) has appointed former India player Sridharan Sriram
Cricket Australia (CA) has appointed former India player Sridharan Sriram and ex-Australia batsman Mike Hussey as consultants to help the national team prepare for next year’s World T20 in its quest to claim the only ICC global trophy that has eluded it.

Cricket Australia (CA) has appointed former India player Sridharan Sriram and ex-Australia batsman Mike Hussey as consultants to help the national team prepare for next year’s World T20 in its quest to claim the only ICC global trophy that has eluded it.

Sriram will be with the Australia team in the lead-up and early stages of the WT20, scheduled to be hosted by India in March 2016.

The former India ODI batsman will join captain Aaron Finch’s men during the three-match T20 tour of South Africa before Hussey returns to the Australian set-up for the first two weeks of the competition.

“We will play three T20 Internationals against South Africa prior to arriving in India and Sriram’s focus will be on getting the players as prepared as possible for what they will face in India,” CA Executive General Manager of Team Performance, Pat Howard said.

“Sriram was a consultant coach with the Australia A side when they travelled to India earlier this year and was due to go to Bangladesh as a consultant prior to the tour being postponed. He has also been working with our National Performance Squad for the past few years,” he added.

The Indian Premier League’s Delhi Daredevils assistant coach Sriram has played eight ODIs for India between 2000 and 2004.

Hussey, the current captain of KFC Big Bash League club Sydney Thunder, has a vast T20 experience that includes stints with Perth Scorchers, Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians besides 38 matches for Australia.

Australia will play their opening match of the World T20 against New Zealand in Dharamsala on March 18.
